The Simple Joys

I am not a “preachy” person per say, but I have very strong feelings about my faith, and one day I was thinking about the way I feel about life, and it inspired me to write this poem. I hope you enjoy it!

The Simple Joys

Where are you, Oh God, I ask

Are you here, or there, or where

I am always here, my child, He says lovingly

Cast on me all of your cares

You wander around from day to day

With so much to do

No wonder, you’ve lost your way

Remember the simple things

You don’t need diamond rings

All you need is the warm sunshine

To make you feel just fine

A kindly word from a friend

A loving smile to warm your heart

A listening ear to lend

From these do not part

Fill your days with simple joys

Forget all the expensive toys

Look for the lasting treasure

The treasure of simple living

There you will find joy without measure

Pumpkin Fest

Mark your calender for October 17Th and 18Th. Mountain City is hosting the annual Pumpkin Fest at Ralph Stout Park. It promises to be loads of fun for all of us festival goers.

Tim Cable of (WJHL) will be there to help judge the scarecrow contest. Many of you know Tim from his show called Cable Country on (WJHL) TV.

There will be lots of vendors with various items for sale. And of course lots of pumpkins!

Hope to see you there!

September

Can you believe it is September already. Soon the leaves will be falling and the earth will be a spectacular array of color. And it will be that glorious time of fall. I can hardly wait. I love fall! Just  a little longer. The days are getting ever so much shorter, and you can begin to feel that little nip in the air that assures us fall is on its way. Three cheers for fall!

Excuse me, did you say Redneck?

Here in the mountains of East Tennessee and Southwestern Virginia, we have our own dialect and customs that have served us for generations. None was more evident than when Ellis Jesse was trying to explain the intricacies of politics with his children. He was trying to explain the differences in the two political candidates when one of his older daughters interrupted him,”Daddy, I don’t get it! I just don’t even know what you’re even talking about!” she cried in frustration.

Searching for a way to explain that she could relate to, he said,”Alright, let me put it this way, two words-Redneck, Blue Collar.”

“Oh, well why didn’t you say so?” she asked. “Now, I understand that!”

So, if you find yourself in a political quagmire, searching for just the right phrase, Mr. Jesse has two words for you. But we’ll leave you to figure out which is which!
